The UK’s largest drug company has announced that it will offer generic Augmentin, a drug to treat acute bacterial infections in adults and children, for around £5.50 a tablet or two in two weeks.
The company, which has more than 2,000 patents covering its manufacturing processes, announced that it will offer Augmentin to patients in the UK who have an infection of the following types:
“Augmentin is an antibiotic that helps fight bacterial infections in the lungs, skin, sinus, ear, throat and ear,” said Mr Ian Thompson, co-founder and CEO of GlaxoSmithKline’s (GSK) Augmentin division.
“The launch of Augmentin represents a significant milestone in the fight against bacterial infections in the UK.”
“We are very pleased to offer Augmentin to adults and children and to other patients who have been diagnosed with a bacterial infection. This is a significant milestone and a testament to the potential of Augmentin to help fight these infections,” said Ms Thompson.
The drug belongs to the class of antibiotics known as cephalosporins. It is prescribed for bacterial infections caused by viruses such as colds and flu.
Augmentin is available in generic form, containing the active ingredient cephalosporins, as well as a low molecular weight form, known as an oral tablet, which is used to treat acute bacterial infections. As Augmentin is a generic version of the medication, it is also available in tablet form, which can be used for children as young as 12 months.
Augmentin is available in Augmentin’s strengths (5mg and 10mg tablets). It is not recommended to be taken in the hospital, and patients must take the medication for a minimum of six weeks before it is available for use in the UK.
Augmentin is available in two strengths and a lower strength tablet. The lower strength tablet is used for patients who have severe upper respiratory infections and who need higher doses of the medication.

A pack of 14 tablets of Augmentin (5mg and 10mg tablets) will be sent to the UK’s online pharmacy to be manufactured.Augmentin, the active ingredient in Augmentin, is available in generic form, containing the active ingredient cephalosporins.
